WHAT WE DO
We have a very active
youth group within ASDGA. Youth meetings are held
twice a month. The Youth Chairperson, Penny Dapser,
conducts clinics on Showmanship and Goat Judging.
We also offer our
youth an opportunity to earn a free membership to ASDGA by
writing an essay explaining why they would like a membership
to our association.
YOUTH SHOWS
Our Second Annual
Youth Goat Show was a tremendous success with 30 children
and their goats. Ages ranged from 3 to 18 and nearly
all goat breeds were represented. The show and clinics
were a combined effort between ASDGA and Queen Creek 4H Goat
Project, "Udder Chaos". Children from both
organizations, FFA and Canyon State Academy participated.
Some of the key
highlights were: Best Doe Of Show went to a Boer doe
owned by Amy Schweitzer of QC4H. Justen Ollendick's (ASDGA
& QC4H) Nubian doe, Seabreeze, took Grand Champion Nubian
Doe, Kayla Lonchar's Pygmy wether, Jordache, took Grand
Champion Wether.
Show Chairperson,
Penny Dapser, threw in an extra class - Parent Showmanship!
The kids had fun "coaching" their parents and older
siblings. Jess Payne, 6'5", was showing his sister's
18" Oberhasli, Delight. Jess was caught
switching sides OVER the goat rather than crossing in front!
Everyone was laughing so hard and judges, Danielle Dapser
and Shannon Lathrop, just couldn't keep a straight face -
all parents were winners!
